Piracy Killing The Industry?
Is piracy really killing the music industry?
Can our generation of peer to peer sharing really stop monolithic corporations from continuing to benefit from overpriced cd’s? Money that we’re certain is dropped into overpriced marketing and wasteful promotional propaganda and not into the hard working musicians pockets.
While most independent musicians are quite aware of the dangers of offering their music online, with proper copyright protection one can deliver free music instantly to hungry fans almost instantly via the internet. Without the big budgets available to indie’s, one must assume the risks and offer free music regularly to generate the much needed “word of mouth” marketing that has seen many artists catapulted to online success and fame.
So is piracy really killing the music giants or is it their inability to flow with the ever changing horizons of the music business?
Indie record labels seem to continue to tap into new and innovative marketing schemes that continue to keep them and their artists in the black. So explain to me how it is that an under budgeted, under staffed and overworked team of hard working indie music lovers, continue to move forward in an industry that claims to find themselves being raped by the distribution of free music?
Don’t get me wrong now.
I truly believe that an artist who works hard on their music should be properly rewarded and I’ll be the first to go out and buy an album if it draws me in with GOOD music.
Unfortunately most artists being managed by the big boys, continue to release a pitifully small number of good songs and apparently feel obligated to complete lame albums with a series of B grade tracks.
Ughhh!
Feel differently? Have you got a different view on how this industry should play nice?
